The Mirror by Nora Roberts: A Haunting, Heart-Wrenching Ride
Just finished The Mirror (Book Two in Nora Roberts’ Lost Bride Trilogy) and—WOW. It absolutely delivered, and now I’m counting down the days until the final book drops this fall.
The Mirror picks up right where Inheritance left off, seamlessly continuing the story of Sonya and the haunted manor she’s inherited. While Inheritance laid the groundwork—introducing the eerie house, the tragic history, and the close-knit group of characters—The Mirror dives deeper into the supernatural mystery and emotional stakes. The relationships that began to form in Book One grow stronger here, especially as new secrets surface and the danger intensifies. The connection between past and present becomes even more tangled, making it clear that the events of the first book were just the beginning of something much darker and more personal.
Nora Roberts really turns up the intensity here. The creepy vibes are stronger, the emotional weight is heavier, and the stakes feel even higher. But it all works. Every twist and chilling moment pushes the story forward and helps peel back more layers of the haunted house’s dark past.
All the characters are great (minus the evil witch, obviously), but Owen Poole completely stole the show for me. As the cousin of the main character, he brings so much loyalty and humor. His witty one-liners are the perfect break from all the suspense and tension.
Like the first book, this one ends on a cliffhanger, but it’s not just surprising—it hits hard emotionally. Where Inheritance left me wide-eyed and tense, The Mirror left me with that deep, lingering feeling you get when you’re completely wrapped up in the characters’ lives.
This audiobook had everything I was hoping for—atmosphere, emotion, suspense, and that gothic, romantic tone Nora Roberts does so well. Plus, Brit Pressley nails the narration once again. Now I’m even more desperate to see how it all wraps up in Book Three: The Seven Rings.
⭐ Rating: 5/5 If you loved Inheritance, you’re going to fly through this one too. Huge thanks to Macmillan Audio, Nora Roberts, and Netgalley for the audiobook copy!
